Steven Chance has spent thirty-two years practicing business law in both private practice and as a general counsel of a major corporation with a concentration in mergers and acquisitions and technology transfers. His practice currently consists of providing legal services and counseling to public and private businesses on a project basis, or as part-time general counsel. His principal areas of practice include mergers and acquisitions, financing transactions, licensing and other technology-related issues, international transactions, contracts, dispute resolution, corporate governance and general corporate matters.
Prior to establishing his own practice, Steve served for twenty years as vice president and general counsel of Teleflex Incorporated, a New York Stock Exchange listed, manufacturing corporation operating in multiple markets with more than 125 facilities located in North America, Europe and Asia. When Steve joined Teleflex in 1984, its revenues were approximately $150 million. During the period he served as the company’s general counsel, the company grew into a $2.3 billion global corporation through internal growth and with the acquisition of businesses in the United States, Canada, Mexico, England, Northern Ireland, Germany, The Netherlands, France, Sweden, China and Malaysia. The company’s business is divided into five basic markets: aerospace, medical, automotive, marine and general industrial.
As general counsel of Teleflex, Steve concentrated on acquisitions, major financings, international matters and litigation management, while participating, as a senior member of management, in development of corporate strategy and policy. Additional responsibilities included corporate development and supervision of the company’s Human Resources, Environmental, Safety and Health and Information Technologies Departments.
Before moving to Teleflex, Steve was a partner in the Philadelphia office of Dechert LLP, where he practiced law for eleven years assisting local, national and international business clients with complex corporate, merger and acquisition and technology transfer transactions.
Steve is a 1967 graduate of Wesleyan University in Middletown, Connecticut and he received an M.Sc. Degree in government from The London School of Economics. He received his law degree, magna cum laude, from The Law School of the University of Pennsylvania, where he was a Law Review Editor and member of the Order of the Coif. He currently practices in Radnor, Pennsylvania as a member of the bar of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. He has published one novel, “Behind the Curve” and is currently working on a second.
